Experience
Experience of Malcolm Ritchie for Congress
Communities deserve leaders who understand sacrifice, service, and responsibility. Malcolm Ritchie for Congress is built on a lifetime of duty to his country and his neighbors. His experience reflects courage in combat, leadership under pressure, and a deep belief in protecting both democracy and the people he serves.
Duty Bound to Serve
Malcolm Ritchie carries a strong sense of duty to serve not only his local community but the nation as a whole. From a young age, he felt called to serve his country.
His father served in the Marine Corps. His dear friend and bagpipe instructor, Harry Mathews, served in the Canadian Army during World War I. His uncle Ian served in the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II, while his uncle George served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater. His older step-brother, Gasque, retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer.
Service runs deep in his family. His son Evan, inspired by Malcolm’s example, graduated from West Point and served as a Captain in Afghanistan. His nephew, Travis, served as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan. Strong military obligation and duty have defined generations of his family.
Leadership in the U.S. Army
Malcolm retired from the U.S. Army Reserves at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Over his career, he served in three combat tours in Iraq.
He held leadership roles at every level of command and staff in both the Infantry and Civil Affairs Branch. His work demanded discipline, steady judgment, and the ability to lead diverse teams under intense conditions.
Service Beyond the Battlefield
While serving in Iraq, Malcolm directed numerous humanitarian aid missions. He helped develop public infrastructure and supported contracting projects that strengthened local communities.
He also worked in local diplomatic relations, helping ease tensions between warring Sunni and Shia factions. His efforts focused on stability, cooperation, and the protection of civilians during conflict.
Honors Earned Through Action
Malcolm is a two-time recipient of the Bronze Star and has received several other awards for his service. These honors reflect bravery, leadership, and dedication to mission and country.
His record shows not just time served, but responsibility carried and results delivered.
A Balanced View on National Defense
Malcolm believes in a strong military to defend the United States and protect its people. At the same time, he disagrees with the many foreign wars the nation has been involved in since the Vietnam War.
His experience gives him a clear understanding of the cost of war and the importance of using military strength wisely and responsibly.
